If you are here, it is likely because you need help, brain injury help.  You or someone you love has suffered a brain injury.

You are reaching out for brain injury information, answers, connection and care.  I have been reaching back to help with brain injury for more than a generation. It is really all I do.  I saw the potential to use the internet to provide brain injury help in 1996 and have been making new contributions to brain injury education online since.

To help you find your way through Brain Injury Help, I have structured these pages into the following categories:

I write from the perspective of a lawyer, not a doctor.  Yet, when you limit your practice to representing brain injured people for a generation, you learn a fair amount of medicine. Cross-examine a hundred brain injury specialists, and you will learn many answers. You will also see flaws in the medical approach to brain injury.  More importantly, listen to the voices and needs of this community and you will be changed by it.

Braininjuryhelp.com is my latest outreach to the brain injury community.  It combines many of the themes I have addressed over the years, with a fresh perspective I gained from listening to the voices of brain injury in my TBI Voices project.

I listened to Mom’s, I listened to survivors. I worked with brain injury professionals – all with the goal of hearing the story of brain injury. I personally went to dozens of support groups, interviewed 30 survivors and their family members.  Elsewhere are the stories, the archives of those voices. Brain Injury Help contains the lessons I hope to be able to share with you.

Help for the Brain Injury Caregiver

I hope that those lessons will soften the impact of brain injury on your life. I hope that it will help you adjust to your role as a caregiver.  Other mom’s, spouses, have given their time, given up their privacy to help you – so that you can read Brain Injury Help as you sit in that waiting room, as you listen to the neurosurgeon, deal with the discharge planners and social workers.

Help for the Brain Injury Survivor

The lessons shared here also come from brain injury survivors.  One of the things I learned on the first brain injury case I handled in 1990, is that not even a severe brain injury, takes away a voice that needs to be heard.  These pages will contain some of the most detailed information found anywhere on the nature of brain injury, what symptoms can leave lasting struggles, what methods can be used to overcome those challenges.  These lessons are different than those written in books because they not only incorporate what academic research can tell us, they incorporate what the survivor’s told me.

I hope that Brain Injury Help will assure that brain injury recovery continues for years and generations.  The medical community will soon try to confine that brain injury care to preset perimeters which have nothing to do with the actual needs of the brain injury survivor.

When I speak about “recovery” on these pages, I am speaking not about how much you might get out of a lawsuit, but a lifetime of recovery from brain injury. Recovery has nothing to do with an insurance companies contrived definitions of a “healing plateau.”  For the difference a brain injury attorney can make in getting access to the best rehabilitation, click here.

I am here to provide brain injury help. But I am also here to represent those who need an attorney’s help in receiving compensation for brain injuries that occur because of the wrongful conduct of others.  If you need that kind of help, please call me at 800-992-9447.  We have represented people throughout the United States who have sustained a brain injury for more than 20 years.  I am an advocate for those people whose lives have been affected by brain injury.  My practice is dedicated to the representation of survivors of brain injury and their families.
